A look at suicides and the rise in violence this past week

KMMK:

Over the past week, we’ve seen an alarming increase in suicides and violent homicides. Economic pressures, social problems and the lack of psychological support continue to threaten many lives.

Suicides increase in different cities:

According to local reports, at least eleven people committed suicide in different cities of Kurdistan:
Himan Shmal – Bukan

  • Fershtah Qasemi – Kermashan
  • Mohammed Amin Abdi – Kermashan
  • Ehsan Spehri – Kermanshan
    Omid Abbasi – Kermashan
    Omid Ghafari – Vaziri Nahavand
  • Mina Gholami – Mahidasht
    Fatemah Balanji – Ormia •
  • Parvin Mohammadi – Mahabad
  • Manzar Seedi – Qasreshirin
  • Lila Hosseini – Shabad

The causes of these suicides are mainly economic problems, social pressures and psychological crises. These growing statistics show the depth of economic and social crises that have directly impacted the mental health of citizens.

Violent murders motivated by robbery:

In addition to the spike of suicides, there were two violent murders last week, motivated by robbery and using cold weapons.

  • Reza Bazvand – Kohdasht
  • Hadi Qadri – Salas Babajani

The rise in suicides and violent killings in the past week has once again demonstrated that Islamic Republic officials are not only taking effective action to address these humanitarian crises, but have also contributed to aggravating the situation with ineffective economic policies and protester repression. Inflation and widespread poverty, which has crushed many families under economic pressure, is a result of mismanagement, systematic corruption and prioritizing ideological policies over livelihoods. The suppression of social and political freedoms has also made society deprived of any expression of dissatisfaction and people can see no other option than violence against themselves (suicide) or violence against others.
