K.M.M.K:
On the morning of Monday, November 10, 2025, Ebrahim Abdollahi, 40, from the village of Bazan in Javanrud, lost his right foot after stepping on a landmine left from the Iran-Iraq war in the border areas of the county. The incident occurred along one of the paths commonly used by kolbars (border porters).
Local sources reported that Abdollahi was first taken to nearby medical centers and later transferred to Paveh Hospital for further treatment.
Landmines left from the eight-year Iran-Iraq war continue to threaten the lives and safety of civilians in the Zagros region, especially along routes that kolbars must use to earn their livelihood.
According to statistics collected by human rights organizations, at least 12 civilians have been killed or injured so far this year in eastern and southern Kurdistan border areas due to mine explosions or shootings by Iranian border forces.
Human rights activists have repeatedly warned about the ongoing presence of landmines in these areas and the government’s failure to fully clear contaminated lands, calling this a clear violation of civilians’ right to life and security.
