Pressure on Pejman Fatehi’s Family by Security Forces Following Complaint Filed with UN Working Group on Enforced Disappearances

K.M.M.K

According to a video released by Bayan Azimi, the wife of Pejman Fatehi (one of four Kurdish political prisoners killed in Ghesel Hesar prison in Karaj on January 29, 2024), Iranian security forces in Sanandaj have recently threatened Fatehi’s elderly mother. This comes after the families of the four prisoners filed complaints because the Iranian regime has refused to return their bodies.

In her message to freedom-seekers, human rights activists, and civil society activists, Azimi said:

Despite exhausting all domestic legal avenues, the Iranian government has not issued death certificates or revealed the burial sites of our loved ones—Pejman Fatehi, Vafa Azarbad, Mohammad Faramarzi, and Mohsen Mazloom. Therefore, through our joint attorney, Mr. Faraz Firoozi, we have filed the first formal complaint against the Islamic Republic of Iran with the UN Working Group on Enforced Disappearances. The regime’s refusal to return the bodies and the uncertainty surrounding their final fate is not only a continuous crime but also a form of psychological torture for the families.

We call on all organizations, human rights activists, and conscientious individuals to support our justice campaign until the legal identification and status of our loved ones are determined. The campaign will remain active until the Iranian government provides an official and adequate response regarding the bodies.
