According to reports, Ismail Hosseinnezhad Heydranlou, brother of political prisoner Hamid Hoseinnezhad Heydranlou, attempted suicide on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, by ingesting acid. His act was in protest against the transfer of his brother to solitary confinement in Urmia Prison, where his execution is reportedly imminent.
Immediately after the incident, Ismail was transferred to a hospital in the city of Khoy. He is currently in critical condition and receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.
Earlier that same day, Hamid Hosseinnezhad Heydranlou was moved from the political prisoners’ ward to the quarantine section of Urmia Prison — a move that, according to his lawyer, signals the scheduled execution of his death sentence on Friday, April 18, 2025.
Hamid Heydranlou has been held in Urmia as a political prisoner. His transfer to the execution wing is seen as a serious indication that the judiciary intends to carry out the death sentence without delay.
