According to reports received by KMMK, the Juvenile Criminal Court in Urmia has sentenced Pezhman Soltani to death. Soltani was arrested during the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” (Woman, Life, Freedom) movement and has now been convicted of complicity in murder.
The case also involves Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri and Ali (Soran) Ghasemi, who received 15 years and 10 years in prison, respectively, following what have been described as baseless accusations. Meanwhile, Kaveh Salehi, the fourth defendant in the case, has been acquitted of all charges.
The trial for these four individuals took place on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Branch 1 of the Juvenile Criminal Court of West Azerbaijan Province in Urmia. The final verdicts were officially communicated to the detainees in prison on January 15, 2025.
The ruling has sparked outrage among human rights advocates, who have raised concerns about the fairness of the trial and the broader crackdown on activists involved in the protests.
