Marivan: Medical negligence destroys a family’s life

KMMK:

According to a report received by the Kurdistan Human Rights Associations (KMMK)

Shahu Hosseinpour, a Marivan citizen, died on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, just 24 days after his wife, Sara Tau, committed suicide. Sara Tau, a 28 years old pregnant woman, died on April 19 at Bu Ali Hospital in Marivan due to “medical negligence.”

This incident once again shows the inefficiency of the health system, the lack of oversight, and the lack of accountability for medical negligence cases. After a month of severe psychological stress, Shahu decided to end his life in the absence of any support.

While the deaths of Shahu and Sara are just one example of tragedies that occur amidst media silence and institutional indifference, the lack of effective mechanisms to address medical malpractice, the lack of psychological support after hospital tragedies, and the inability to administer justice clearly demonstrate that the healthcare system in Iran is, for large segments of society, not a life preserver, but a direct or indirect cause of death and despair.

These two deaths are not just a family tragedy, but a clear symbol of the critical state of public health, structural injustice, and the helplessness of citizens in the face of a healthcare system that is unaccountable, unmonitored, and claims lives every week.
