Human Rights Watch called for the death penalty to be abolished from all drug-related crimes
According to the Kurdistan Human Rights Association, Human Rights Watch called for the abolition of the death penalty for all drug-related crimes.
Sara Leah Whitson, director of the Middle East Human Rights Watch, referred to the issue of the abolition of executions in the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran and the prospect of approval of the plan, the Iranian judiciary, called for the execution of such a convict to be stopped at that time.
Human rights watchers point out that Iran has one of the highest executions in the world, with a total of at least 567 executions last year.
The Islamic Consultative Assembly has approved a plan to reduce the death penalty for narcotics, but the details of the plan have been openly contested by the judicial commission.
It should be noted that the plan only includes convicts for the execution of drug offenses,meanwhile, the Islamic Republic of Iran a large number of political activists, including Kurdish political activists are executed.
