KMMK:
According to the information received to KMMK, during the past week until Sunday, March 23.2025 at least six suicides have been recorded in different cities of eastern Kurdistan.
The statistic has once again raised concerns about the mental security and livelihood crisis in the region.
Suicide statistics over the past week:
- Mehdi Qidi – Bukan
- Hamid Sheri – Saqez
- Asma Ghazanfari – Yasuj
- Sajad Aghaei – Dehloran
- Suma Cigari – Saqez
Mohammed Khan Krzebar – Khoramabad
These people, who were all young people in the region, ended their lives in a pursuit of despair and economic, social and psychological pressures. Poverty, unemployment, lack of psychological support and social repression are among the most important factors to increase suicide in Iran.
Murder statistics for the past week:
- Reza Heydranjad – was killed during a street fight in Kermanshan.
- Shilan Shahbazian – After 77 days, his dead body was found in Canada. The cause of his kidnapping and murder is still unknown.
The reasons for the increase of suicides in Iran and the poor state of youth:
The increase in suicide rates in Iran, especially in the Kurdish regions, is directly linked to economic problems, widespread unemployment, political and social repression, and the lack of psychological support. Many young people suffer from depression and frustration with uncertain futures, heavy family and social pressures, and a dark outlook on life. In such a situation, the lack of supportive policies and the government’s disregard for livelihood problems has increased the suicide rate day by day and exacerbated the social crisis.
Continuing this process is considered a serious alarm for Iranian society that requires fundamental changes in economic, social and cultural policies.
