On Friday,January 2, 2026, following public calls for protest gatherings in Ilam Province and the Kermanshah region, security forces of the Islamic Republic arrested at least 29 citizens in the cities of Sarpol-e Zahab and Dehloran. As of the time of publication, there is no clear information regarding the detainees’ whereabouts or legal status.
According to reports, in Sarpol-e Zahab, after a call for a civil gathering at the Mirahmad crossroads, intelligence forces affiliated with the IRGC detained at least seven individuals. They have been identified as Masoud Aghaei, Jabbar Jamshidi, Askar Najafi, Mehdi Karimi, Ghaem Badri, Esfandiar Sarvari, and Ahad Moradi. Local sources say the arrests are directly linked to the call for and participation in the protest, warning that the number of detainees may increase.
In Dehloran County, reports indicate that security forces raided citizens’ homes and workplaces following last night’s protests, resulting in the arrest of at least 22 people. Local sources state that the operation was aimed at instilling fear and preventing the continuation of protests.
Those arrested include Akbar Darvishi, Aref Darvishi, Mohammad Havasi, Alireza Salehi, Sepehr Salehi, Farzad Shokri, Abolfazl Shadfar, Milad Kiadi, Ehsan Maleki, Amir Raoufi, Omid Malekmohammadi, Yazdan Bakhti, Sharif Azad, Shayan Momeni, Amirhossein Alizadeh, Ferdin Aghaei, Abolfazl Jamkhaneh, Sajjad Azad, Abdollah Azad, Erfan Farahmand, Alireza Rahmani, and Amirreza Rahmani.
According to information received by the KMMK News Center, the Dehloran detainees were initially taken to the city police station. After families gathered in protest outside the station, the detainees were transferred to Ilam. Human rights organizations have expressed concern over the continuation of arbitrary arrests and the lack of information provided to families regarding the fate of those detained.
