According to reports, on Friday, August 29, 2025, on 16-Meter Street in the city of Divandarreh, four children—Sami and Mani Jalali, and Kianoush and Mobin Khosravi—were injured in the explosion of an anti-personnel landmine. Two of them were hospitalized at Khomeini Hospital in Divandarreh due to the severity of their injuries and are receiving specialized care.
Reports indicate that, in addition to landmines left over from the Iran-Iraq War, new mines have also been planted in some border areas of Kurdistan by forces of the Islamic Republic, posing a long-standing threat to local residents.
Iran remains one of the few countries that has not yet joined the Ottawa Convention—the treaty banning the use, production, stockpiling, and transfer of anti-personnel mines. The treaty has been in effect since 1999 and has been ratified by 165 countries worldwide.
