K.M.M.K:
According to reports received by KMMK News Center, Omid Bagheri, a photographer and civil activist from Shabad (Islamabad gharb), has been on a hunger strike since Friday, December 26, 2025, in protest of judicial uncertainty and the issuance of an indefinite detention order.
This 37 years old citizen is now spending the thirteenth day of his detention in security detention centers in Kermashan.
According to informed sources, Bagheri has been deprived of access to a lawyer and the right to meet with his family since his arrest; an issue that has increased the concerns of human rights organizations regarding his health condition and observance of a fair trial. Reports indicate that his continued detention could lead to his transfer to an Iranian regime prison in Kermashan.
On Sunday, December 14, 2025, Omid Bagheri was stopped at a checkpoint on the way from Kermashan to Paveh and then detained with violence by security forces. His family and relatives say that since his arrest,
there has been no clear information about the status of the case and the charges against him.
This civil activist was previously detained in 2024 for attending and photographing Nowruz rituals in Kurdistan and was sentenced to six months of suspended imprisonment on security charges and charges of “propaganda against the regime.”
A series of reports published in human rights media in recent years show that Kurdish cultural and civil activists in Iran have faced a similar pattern of short-term detention, security pressures, and deprivation of basic rights.
Citing these reports, the KMMK News Center emphasizes that Omid Bagheri’s hunger strike is a sign of a legal impasse and the lack of minimum guarantees of a fair trial; a situation that requires the immediate attention of independent and international human rights institutions.
