Human Rights Violations Report 2024: A Summary by Kurdistan Human Rights Association

K.M.M.K

The 2024 report on human rights violations, compiled by the Kurdistan Human Rights Association, is based on data collected by this organization. Due to the Iranian government’s refusal to allow access to human rights organizations, this report is incomplete and represents only a portion of the human rights violations occurring in Eastern Kurdistan.

The Iranian regime continues to violate the civil, political, and social rights of Kurdish citizens through arrests and systematic discrimination. Daily practices include suppression of freedom of expression and belief, violations of the right to life and personal security, and government-led discrimination.

Executions:

In 2024, the Iranian government executed 156 individuals under charges ranging from premeditated murder and drug offenses to vague accusations such as “rebellion” and “enmity against God.” Among those executed, four were women. These executions highlight the regime’s inhumane and oppressive policies.

Arrests and Imprisonments:

Over the past year, 586 Kurdish citizens in Eastern Kurdistan were arrested or detained. Of these, 556 were men and 30 were women. Additionally, 132 individuals received prison sentences under baseless charges, amounting to a total of 398 years and three months of imprisonment.

Killings and Suicides:

Social issues stemming from the Iranian government’s mismanagement have resulted in alarming numbers of killings and suicides among Kurdish citizens. In 2024, over 407 individuals lost their lives due to these causes. The murder toll reached 153, including 106 men and 47 women. Meanwhile, 253 cases of suicide were recorded, with 156 men and 97 women among the victims.

Border Workers (“Kolbars”):

The ongoing violence against border workers, or kolbars, has resulted in 63 deaths and 233 injuries in the past year. These were caused by direct gunfire from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and border security forces, as well as landmine explosions.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Association urges the Kurdish community and people to amplify efforts to secure their legal and natural rights. They emphasize the importance of raising awareness about human rights violations and striving for the establishment of a free and just society.
