According to reports received by KMMK News Center, on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, a 30-year-old woman identified as Nahid Khani from Cherem – Dehdasht, died in an incident described by her family as a suicide.
According to an informed source, Nahid Khani, accompanied by her husband and sister-in-law, was traveling to Dehdasht when she was confronted by her sister-in-law. Upon returning home, she complained to her husband about the incident and was severely beaten by him. Despite reaching out to her family by phone, she received no support and was told to reconcile, with her family emphasizing that “a good woman is an accommodating woman.”
Nahid Khani lived in an apartment where her in-laws also resided. The next day, her mother-in-law found her lifeless body when she came to wake her up.
It should be noted that the family prevented the body from being sent to the medical examiner and buried her in Sepah Khengeh cemetery in Cherem. Although the family claimed she died by suicide, there were no signs or instruments of suicide found. The cause of death could be cardiac arrest due to severe distress or even from severe physical abuse.
Patriarchy is a factor that limits and violates women’s rights. In the Islamic Republic, this ideology has had negative impacts, including limited access to education and employment, discrimination in family and social laws, and restrictions on women’s financial and economic rights. This situation requires serious attention and reforms to fully implement women’s rights, allowing all women to participate equally in society and fully enjoy their rights.
