Baktash Abbot was killed in prison

Saturday, December 8, 2021, Baktash Abtin, poet, writer, director, screenwriter and member of the Writers’ Association of Iran, died in hospital due to coronary heart disease.

The Writers’ Association of Iran has confirmed the news of Baktash Abtin’s death in a statement “the anti-liberation government has taken away a Kurdish hero from us.” Saying that “Baktash Abtin is alive because the spirit of freedom and struggle against the tyranny and oppression is alive”, the Writers’ Association of Iran adds that it will soon inform the public about the details of the oppression of Baktash Abtin.

This poet and filmmaker has been serving a six-year prison sentence since October 26. The Iranian government had sentenced Baktash Abtin to six years in prison on charges of “propaganda against the regime” and “conspiracy against national security.”

In December, Baktash Abtin reported on the problems and heavy shadow of the security forces on political prisoners in an audio message from Evin Prison. In the message, the poet revealed that interrogators and security officials made promises to some political prisoners to spy on their fellow prisoners.

It is noteworthy that Baktash Abtin contracted coronary heart disease twice during his imprisonment. His health has deteriorated over the past two weeks, forcing prison officials to transfer him to Taleghani Hospital, and as his condition worsened, doctors were forced to place him in an artificial coma on 11 January, and he pas away on 18 January.
